About book Lifers (2014)

Jordan Kane, ladies, if this man has not made his way on to your kindles yet, he damn sure should! This story was an amazingly written journey of a man trying to let go of his past and find redemption and a woman trying to find her path in life. This is the first Jane Harvey-Berrick book I have had the pleasure to read, and believe me it was just that, a pleasure.I love strong heroines like Torrey Delaney. She is the way she is and makes no excuses for it, she lives her life to the fullest, seizes every moment and answers to nobody but herself. She has no problems bucking the system so of course she befriends the local ex-con. Jordan has paid most of his debt to society, he's back in his hometown to serve out his parole sentence and live a quiet existence. But how can he when no one will let him live down what he did to get sent to prison in the first place? With even his own parents against him, Torrey is a breath of fresh air in his world. The only person who will stand up and fight for him. I love Jordan, love, love, love him! He is such an amazingly complex character. His story is heartbreaking. I had so many different emotions running through me while reading this book. The story is beautiful and agonizing at the same time. The characters are rich and complicated. A nice, long, meaty read that left me in tears and jumping for joy. I loved this book.~ Erin, 5 Stars 4.5 starsI stayed up late because I couldn't put this book down. I loved Torrey - she's unapologetically blunt and not afraid to call people out on their shit (not that she is a bitch about it), and I loved how to stood up for herself and for Jordan. Jordan I just wanted to wrap in my arms and make it all better. I loved the banter between Torrey and Jordan - it made me laugh out loud many times, and I also shed a few tears for all that Jordan had to endure not only from the people in his town but his parents (God, I wanted to bitch slap his mother repeatedly). The pacing was a little slow in parts but not enough to detract from my enjoyment of the story. I'd recommend this for anyone who loves an emotional read. I only deducted half a star because I would have liked a little more conclusion at the end. It isn't a spoiler to say there is a HEA - but I just wanted it all tied up with a bow :) I hope Jane Harvey-Berrick writes a novella sometime to give a glimpse of Jordan and Torrey's future.
