Totally charming - ok, I know that seems like a bizarre comment to make about a zombie apocalypse book. But that's what stands out to me - I'm enjoying the story, but really the main character is just funny and charming in his complete lack of charm, it's just a fun, easy read. I liked the previous 2 books a bit better just because there is a non-sequitur going on with the plot that I am not convinced by, but perhaps when everything is said and done in the 4th book, I will be a true believer. :) The good: The author used an interesting voice throughout the story and most of the character's have very clear personalities that are very realistic. The plot is well done and keeps the story ongoing an interesting. You are never left to get comfortable at any one place before the story has to move on and often times the characters have to abandon everything. This means they have no trusty vehicle, weapon, or even a secure safe-house. The okay: The reminder that this is supposed to be a journal falls short a lot of times, but it also allows us to see deeper into Mike Talbot's mindset. He writes what he feels and does and that can be helpful sometimes and really carries humor into situations which otherwise would not have it. Mark Tufo tries really hard to churn your stomach and sometimes this works, though other times it seems out of place, like he's just trying to make the reader sick. If you like gross-out scenes though, then you won't be disapointed. The bad: The author tends to ramble and it takes the tension right out of the moment. I know this is done for a more organic feel, but sometimes you just want to tell Mike Talbot to shut up and get back to the story. You also get a lot of repeated gags such as character's throwing up, or ruining their pants. Overall: It's an enjoyable read with a good story line, suspense, comedy, and drama. It's not truly very scary, but horror fans may still enjoy seeing what Mark Tufo has done with vampires and zombies. I'd recommend it!
Do You like book Zombie Fallout 3: The End (2000)?
I suppose this is getting less and less annoying as I am coming to care for the characters more.
