Well guys, you know how you have that old, slightly out-of-it uncle or grandparent who is very very sweet, bless his/her soul, but then their dementia gets worse and they start spouting racist crap from their childhoods because that's the only thing their brains can remember? And then you say to yourself, well, I choose to remember Grandma as the healthy, loving person she was, and not the broken person that she became at the end?I'm pretty sure this is what my Casket of Souls experience is going to be like. Wish me luck.Update: September 28,2014 Just finished reading. This would be a solid 3 except that I ADORE Luck in the Shadows and Stalking Darkness and reading this was like getting to see all my old friends again. Thank God this was better than the last two. The politics plot was name soup and I couldn't keep anyone straight. The sleeping sickness plot was more straightforward and honestly more interesting. If you want more Seregil and Alec without alien babies (which I insist on calling Sebrahn) this is worth it. Plus, Thero. I always liked him. I'll be generous and round up 3 1/2 stars to 4, because I do love these characters and the world and, overall, the return to the topics and storytelling of the first. So yes, I really liked it, but I also had some nitpicking problems with pacing and descriptions. There were several passages in the beginning that felt like she was explaining the novel to new readers a bit clumsily, but then other passages that clearly relied on the reader having read the previous novels, so I wasn't sure what the point of the first parts were.Anyway, if you've made it this far in the series, and especially if you preferred books 1-3 to 4+5, then I heartily recommend this one. What it does well--character, plot, world-building and intrigue, more than makes up for the nitpicky shortcoming.
Do You like book Casket Of Souls (2012)?
It was an ok read, not as good as the first book in the Night runners series.
