About book Big Nate Goes For Broke (US Edition) (2012)
Now I understand why my students are such big fans of Big Nate. This was a very entertaining book. Nate's school has an ongoing rivalry with Jefferson Middle school, a neighboring school. The problem is, Jefferson beats PS38 at everything. When Nate's school is damaged by a water leak, Nate and his fellow students end up in the very last place they ever wanted to go, Jefferson. Will Nate's school ever beat their rivals? Book reportTitle: Big Nate goes for Broke. Genre: HumourAudience: The intended audience is kids 8 to 14.Characters: Nate Wright, Dee Dee, Teddy and Francis.Nate Wright : Nate is at school he plays basketball for PS.38 team. He is also in the doodles club they draw cartoons. Dee Dee: She is a chatterbox and Nate lost the bet to ask Dee Dee to join their doodler's club. They then became good friends.Teddy: Teddy is one of Nate's best friends he is in the doodler's club and the basketball club. Teddy and Nate went on a blow up donut with Francis in the snow.Francis: He is very smart and always carries around a general knowledge book and he is in the doodler's club and the basketball club.Themes: The theme of the book is competition and determination. The main characters are school friends and they try to find the other school's (the Jefferson's) Achilles heel (weakness) and in the end they do.Nate's school was getting rebuilt so they had school at the Jeffersons. This caused some problems when Nate broke his arm when the Jefferson kids were bullying him and meant that the basketball game that was going to be held at Nate's school had to be held at the Jeffersons. They always loose to the Jeffersons in everything but this year they really badly wanted to win and they didn't. So they challenged the Jefferson's to an ice sculpture competition. The Jefferson's cheated they used the real school mascot , a knight in shining armour and they just covered it in ice.
