SO this began great, a lot better than the first book. And I had so high hopes for this one. Have her find her father, learn about her powers, develop them and with that her character, change her life and do something good with her powers. But the moment she met her father, I knew this wouldn't turn into any of that but actually become just a copy of the first book!So instead of wealthy Aaron gathering mind readers in his high secure home to train them, we have John who gathers them in his high secure military base. Instead of bad-ass Lewis by her side who she eventually falls for we have Maddox. Instead of her not trusting Aaron, she's not trusting her father. Instead of enjoying a family,blood related or not, she only whines. Instead of SPI being after her, it's Aaron who's after her. And so on.... THis really is the exact same story of the first book only with different character names. Not even the traits are diferent. Aaron/John evade her questions, act as if she is the greatest mind reader ever without truly teaching her, use her abilities for their own good and in the end the reader doesn't really know if they're good or not. Lewis/Maddox are the handsome, sidekick to their bosses, they're really really gorgeous and just want to be all over her. Olivia/Jake are the bitchy mind reader who knows more about it all but tell her nothing, only tell her not to trust anyone. Apart from the characters the story is also pretty much the same as it was in the first book. SHe ends up fleeing with the handsome guy, ends up in this high secure facility where people claim she has a home, the male hero for some reason that are beyond me grows attached to her and in the end she is running away, crying and whining, wondering whom to trust.All in all, it wasn't that bad of a book but really at the end of this one I was exhausted. Because Cameron as a main character is exhausting. She learns nothing, she doesn't develop, there is no depth to her. The onyl thing she is good at is playing a victim. Oh poor me my daddy doesn't tell me how happy he is to see me. Oh poor me no one tells me anything even though I asked.... maybe once. Oh poor me, handsome Maddox kissed me and I liked it but awww, I spent maybe one week with Lewis and I'm sooooooooo in love with him. Oh poor me, Maddox had a girlfriend before me. Oh poor me, I must ally with that ex girlfriend to find Lewis.Oh poor me, Lewis had his memories erased. Oh poor me, I can't trust anyone.Oh poor me, I know I shouldn't trust anyone but I did it anyway and I got played...again!YOu get my point. It's simply exhausting. It's like watching a little kid doing the same mistake over and over again. And we all know the definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over again and expecting a different outcome. The emotional relationships in this book are also too forced and stiff and just not relatable or believable at all. The wannabe love triangle, the father thought dead... it all didn't work for me. And please, so the grand cliffhanger of the first book was MAddox appearing to tell her, her father is alive. And the great cliffhanger of the second book? Yeah, you guessed it: her MOTHER is alive now too. Sure. WHo would have seen that one coming? I can only hope that for the thrid book there will actually be some original plot and story and not just another repetition of her last two books. It would be a sad and lazy way to end this series. Again, typos/grammatical errors. This aside, the novel again was fast paced. The story is a bit disorienting because Cameron is shuffled from guardian to guardian, but it works because Cameron herself is confused on who to trust. I liked the character Maddox, and what his character brought to the story. It was also pretty nice to get to know Cameron's father. The most interesting character is Nora. She is pretty cool!There is just something missing from these stories. They are compelling enough to continue reading, but I just feel like the story is missing something. I did immediately start reading the third novel right after finishing this novel.
