The first book in this series (Selling Scarlett) was a 3 star read for me. I liked it, but there were some major plot holes and I didn't like Hunter very much. So I wasn't really looking to read this one, but it was on sale for 99 cents and I decided to take a chance. I'm glad I did.I liked Cross in the first book. He seemed like a good guy and a good friend to Lizzy. His accident and injuries were heartbreaking. In this book, Cross is still trying to heal, his left hand pretty much useless and he's unable to work. He can't stop thinking about his father's former mistress (Merri) who got sold as a sex slave in Mexico. Cross finds out more about her and he decides to find her to alleviate some of his guilt and because it's the right thing to do.Merri is living in a sanctuary in Mexico with some nuns and working as a massage therapist for children. She's run from the drug lord she was sold to and is worried that she will be tracked down and bring harm to the nuns and children.Cross finds Merri and they go on the run to get back to the states. I liked the chemistry and banter between them and I enjoyed them getting to know each other and slowly reveal their secrets. There is a lot of action here along with romance. It was fast paced and it kept me engaged. There are some references to the first book, but it's not necessary to read it to read this one. I had much more fun with Cross's book then the first one. The interaction between the two caracters were deeper and I really got to know Cross. Maybe because he was already someone who drew my attention in the first book. I felt I knew a lot more about him than I did with Hunter. Missy was a nice caracter as well and I found it an easy read.I liked her strong personality, but she also had a soft side and I enjoyed her caracter.
Just couldn't finish...too scattered and disjointed. Maybe I'll revisit one day.
