Normally I really like Tess Gerritsen books but although there was a fair bit of suspense in the story, I didn't find it quite as riveting as some of her other stories. When a mummy is xrayed it is discovered to not be a mummy but a murder victim. A beautiful young archaeologist becomes the obsession of a sociopath who desires to have a collection of woman whom he not only kills but turns into mummies. The detectives unravel all the clues to save the next victim. Medical Examiner Maura Isles is happy she received an invitation to view the CT scan of a well preserved mummy that was found in the basement of a local museum. But she is shocked to find the mummy has modern dental work and a bullet in her leg. Detectives Jane Rizzoli and Barry Frost are called in to investigate the murder. They soon find the remains of another woman in the museum. When a third body is found in the trunk of Archaeologist Josephine Pulcillo's car, she knows that the killer has found her hiding place and will stop at nothing to see her dead. This is the 7th book in Gerritsen's Rizzoli & Isles series. The mystery kept me interested, but the side stories about the character's personal lives felt a little out of place. There is a ton of information about archaeology and mummification. I learned a lot reading this story. My rating: 4 Stars.
