Quick to the hunt is a harder book for me to review. I thought that the subject line was an extremely difficult one to handle, yet the author did well with that (in my own humble opinion). It was nice to see a story where when one of the characters self harms it is not over exaggerated to the point where you think, 'oh my ever loving Christmas trees are you SERIOUS???' I mean honestly, writers these days... sorry getting off track here. Anyway I thought that the subject matter was handled well, and the PTSD seemed pretty realistic. However, I just could not get into this book! I picked it up and put it down a half dozen times, trying to tell myself 'it will pick up, you will get into it', but I never did. I find this frustrating, and it is most likely more to do with my own personal moods rather than a glitch on the author's point, but hey, who knows? I definitely plan on waiting around a half a year and then trying to read it again, and hopefully I will get rid of this sad measly review and replace it with one that actually helps people decide whether or not to read the book, rather than working on my own personal journaling skills ;) Actually a brilliant book but it triggered me personally so I didn't enjoy it as such. For personal enjoyment I would have given it two stars (due to it being triggering for me) but for how good it was I'd give a five, so I give it four as a compromise. This is probably Dane's best book yet. It's much more serious than many of her other books and much darker. The issue is it dealt with PTSD and panic and anxiety disorder and self harming and as someone with some of these issues, I've got to say I found the book very traumatic to read. So I'd definitely warn readers that if you've got PTSD or panic or harming issues this book could be a big trigger. I think its made my anxiety worse since reading.I've got to say I loved Hunter so much. I fell for him really hard and really identified with him and he broke my heart. He's one of the best heroes I've read in a long while. In some ways though I wished I'd not read the book just because I found it so hard to get through but once I'd started I had to finish it.
