About book Master Your Metabolism: The 3 Diet Secrets To Naturally Balancing Your Hormones For A Hot And Healthy Body! (2009)
Had I read this book when it was first published, I might've rated it higher. I have a strong health and nutrition background, and her hormone chapters confused me a bit. Great information, but could've been conveyed in a less confusing way. Other than that, the book basically says exercise, reduce stress, eliminate toxins, plastics and corn products as much as possible. Similar to Paleo, except Jillian endorses lower fat dairy if you consume dairy. I once majored in chemistry and pre-med so I loved reading about all of the ways hormones impact our body processes and how they get thrown out of whack by what Michaels terms as "frankenfoods" (highly processed) and environmental factors. I also was interested in challenges of weight loss for people who have diabetes or PCOS. It is very convincing that everything that has a shelf-life is polluting our bodies with preservatives and chemicals. There is wisdom in this book but it isn't very practical unless you are single and live in a warm climate with access to local farmers markets year-round. You must get rid of all processed food, no plastic containers, and live off farm to table foods. When you are a mom of a toddler, you barely have time to shower, so constantly chopping/storing fresh food and working out for at least an hour in the gym is not feasible or practical unless you are independently wealthy and have a chef. She acknowledges that it is harder and more expensive to eat this way but basically says "suck it up and do it anyway". Good information but not doable

Good advice and good job explaining why. Sometimes a little bit too much why, but good to know.
