Zany: that's the word that sums up this book, from the premise to the jewelery that brings our hero and heroine together right through to the happily-ever-after. The heroine has a free-spirited grandmother with a one-of-a-kind necklace that seems a bit less unique when the news highlights a strikingly similar one-of-a-kind ring that's given as a reward to a heroic reporter who stopped a robber's getaway.Hero and heroine meet up when she seeks to buy the ring that he's beginning to suspect is stolen property and not from her grandmother. There's a conniving jewelery store owner, a newspaper column that features the hero as a citywide celebrity and a Lucy-and-Ethel-esque relationship between the heroine's grandmother and her long-time best friend. You might lose patience at some of the blindness each of the leads has about their own hang-ups as they fall into a relationship while unraveling the mystery of the ring and necklace. But I gave them a pass as I gave into the zany hijinks of the over-the-top storyline with a sweet happily-ever-after! I liked this one okay. Coop was adorable and Lexie was good when she was with him. I would have liked it better had Phillips, once again, skipped the POV of the secondary characters whose storyline was basically just a plot device. Had Lexie's grandmother's story had any real connection to her own (perhaps a parallel or something similar), then maybe I could justify it. But when the three characters outside the main story explain their plotline later, hearing their voice earlier means very little. It was a nice, sweet, HEA, though. My only other gripe? Sam drives an awful lot for a guy who lives right in NYC. Just sayin'. Makes me wonder if Carly Phillips has ever been to NYC herself. Because I've only been there 3x in my life and I can say that if I lived there my whole damn life (as Coop has), I'd be a lot less likely to own a car, let alone have a driver's license. But Maybe I got in wrong and they lived in Jersey. *shrug*Looking forward to reading about Sarah and Rafe.
