Her sisters, Skye and Lexi turned to Nick Hollister and his survival training retreat to prepare Izzy for her new way of life if she continued to refuse to have the surgery that would return 90% of her vision. Izzy was fearful of the 10% chance of total blindness, no amount of persuasion would change Izzy’s mind – she was adamantly against the surgery. Kidnapped and goaded by Nick, Izzy’s temper returned with a vengeance and led her to adapt to the retreat becoming more independent again. Just as Nick and Izzy were making progress, a secretly-held common thread between them was about to complicate things. Nick’s best friend, Garth Duncan was a competitor of the Titan’s empire causing disaster at every turn and the hatred for Garth by the Titans was fierce. Nick was in the crosshairs just as feelings were developing and he knew secrets have a way of being revealed at the worst time. “Straight From The Hip” was enjoyable to read with its bantering dialogues, the chuckles flowed many times. The humourous moments lightened the storyline, gave insight into the characters’ personalities, and kept the pace constant. The tension between Izzy and Nick sizzled with smoldering heat increasing the speed of reading and made an emotional connection with this reader. The story was an excellent platform to present two well-known, valuable life lessons – face your fears and love can conquer all. 3rd book, 3rd Titan sister's story. Izzy Titan was injured in an explosion on the oil rig she works as a underwater welder. While her body recovered, her eyesight was affected. She only sees blurry images and light and dark spaces. Her sisters worry about her because she only sits in her room and won't interact with family. They hire Nick Hollister to intervene. He literally kidnapped Izzy with her sisters permission and took her to a ranch that helps abused children. At the ranch she works thru her fears and contemplates getting eye surgery that could restore her sight or might leave her totally blind. Nick uses tough love to get Izzy to come out of her depression and face her life. Nick has had awful things happen earlier in his life and feels the need to atone for mistakes he made that involved accidental deaths of three people. His best friend happens to be Garth Duncan(Jed Titan's illegitimate son and intent on destroying all the Titans.) Garth was instrumental in getting Izzy into Nick's program. Meanwhile Nick and Izzy fall in love but when she finds out Nick is best friends with her family's enemy everything goes south. good read.
