About book Fatale, Tome 1 : La Mort Aux Trousses (2012)
Ed Brubaker and Sean Reilly temaed to do the really fine Criminal series, so I thought I would try this ambitious idea since it looks quite a bit like the gorgeous Criminal series. This one attempts to connect nor/pulp to Lovecraftian horror, and while this has been done and could be done well, and is an interesting idea (e.g., could supernatural horror be part of the horrors of the criminal world? It worked for the murderous Macbeth….), it isn't quite pulled together in my opinion. The idea of making a "femme fatale" something psychically irresistible, sort of demonic, something beyond man's control… well, wouldn't it be pretty to say so, that it is never the man's fault… but seriously, it's a kin dog meditation on evil in its various forms, and the notion of the "fatale" in particular, but some of the issues of plot and character are not fully attended to, shall we say. Some of it, doesn't quite make sense, in terms of character motivation, for instance. Still, it's interesting to look at and if you don't read too closely, it's pretty? somewhat? entertaining… It's ambitious, sure, and why not try it, but I would prefer more of the straight noir story from this creative team.
Do You like book Fatale, Tome 1 : La Mort Aux Trousses (2012)?
Unnecessarily convoluted in its narrative, but this first book intrigued me enough to carry on.

Very cool Lovecraftian style horror happening over what seems like a generic noir.
