A very cute story about growing up.The pace of the story is very quick- I finished the book in about two days, and the simple storytelling and interesting storyline speeds it along. If you enjoyed Cameron's other books, you will enjoy this one as well. If you like animal books at all, or if you weren't the most popular kid in school or you had troubles growing up- this will be a fairly good read for you. A boy on the verge of becoming a teenager unexpectedly loses his mother, and seems to lose his father as well, who retreats into his own grieving. They find re-connection when the boy encounters a bear who seems to be the reincarnation of a Civil War soldier, and he must ask his father to believe, and to help him protect the bear from neighbors who want to kill it. Sappy, unbelievable, with a predictable happy ending, and yeah, it warmed my heart.
Do You like book Emory's Gift (2011)?
A little reminiscent of 'Gentle Ben'(Walt Morey) and 'Touching Spirit Bear' (Ben Mikaelsen).
