This is the third book in the FUC (Furry United Coalition) series. While this can be read as a stand alone there is a continuing story arc from book one so it will make the most sense if read in order. Renee has been in captivity as long as she remembers. She has undergone experiments, drug testing and other forms a torture all on the command of the Mastermind. When the facility she is held in gets breached by FUC she is set free by Viktor, a crocodile shifter. Deciding he is the strongest and most capable shifter around, she latches onto him for protection from the Mastermind and because she likes the way he smells. This series is extremely funny and irreverent and probably considered politically incorrect but I still find it very entertaining. The characters have all of the previously mentioned qualities as well being rude, blunt and self assured. Renee isn’t as sure of herself since she can’t remember he life outside the labs but as she gets accustomed to her freedom she quickly decides what she wants and that’s Viktor. It was fun to watch Renee use Viktor as a shield when she was scared or climb onto him when she thought he was going to get away. Viktor’s acceptance of her, even though he tried to talk himself out of it, was amusing to watch and great fun for the other character to make fun of him for. As with all the books there are many secondary characters as well as all the couples from the previous books mentioned. I love the scenes when all the characters get together and gripe or pick on one another. They are very much like a family more so than just friends. Each character still keeps all the unique qualities about themselves even when it’s not there book which I really enjoyed. A lot of times the characters become somewhat generic when they are re-inserted into another story but that doesn’t happen here. Chase is still grumpy and rude, Miranda is still hopping around being a pain in everyone’s behind, Mason is still sarcastic while Jessie still would rather be with her computers than people. One thing I did miss was seeing Viktor shift. In all the other books we see both main characters shift and we never see Viktor fully shifted. He does a half shift but I wanted to see a full shift. And a little more clarification on Renee's shifted form would be nice as well. I don't want to spoil anything but in one scene she shifts and looks a certain way. However, at the end of the book she shifts again and from what is said and described, it's not the same. I was pleased to finally see the Mastermind unmasked although we don’t learn a lot about the character. I did guess some things but not all and I was pleasantly surprised by a few a of the twists in the plot. We get a lead in to the next book, Lion and the Falcon, as is becoming the usual with this series and I am pleased to see how the story arc is changing. I look forward to reading more in this series. Renee comes off as vulnerable and helpless in the beginning, but as the story is told, she blossoms and finds an inner strength she didn't realize she had. Viktor is your typical alpha male, but I laughed as he tried to fight off Renee's innocent advances, knowing he would crumble sooner or later. The action in the story was well placed and Mastermind was finally unmasked. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the tale, from beginning to end.
