About book Convénceme (2012)

I've been on a run of trying authors that are new to me, so I decided to check out Victoria Dahl, recommended here on goodreads as a funny contemporary romance writer. Talk Me Down was enjoyable, at times frustrating but funny enough to get me past some of the implausible problems the heroine faces.Molly Jennings, an erotic romance writer, has decided to move back to her hometown of Tumble Creek after living in Denver for 10 years, mostly because of an ex-boyfriend who can't seem to get to the hint that he's an ex. When she comes back to town, she immediately runs into and begins a hot affair with Ben Lawson, the local police chief who has an aversion to scandal, which is Molly's middle name.My main issue with this book is Molly's manufactured angst because of her secrets - she refuses to tell Ben about her profession (and his starring role in her first book) and about her stalker. Molly is flighty, silly, infuriating and would have saved herself some heartache if she would have just been honest with Ben from the beginning. When she starts having strange things happen to her, she refuses to be honest because she thinks that Ben will judge her for her life choices. Molly is a bit of a TSTL heroine and it made me crazy. Ben's a pretty decent hero, if a bit straitlaced. It's through his eyes though, that I got a better understanding of Molly and learned to forgive some of her foibles. The humor is good, and even during the climax of the story, Molly did make me giggle. It's a fluffy bit of romance, and a bit annoying, but it was decent enough that I'll check out more from this author. I purchased this audio romance on sale through Audible.com. Purchasing books through these sales are hit or miss for me. "Talk Me Down" was a pleasant surprise. The premise is a erotica romance writer (using a non d'plume) moves back to her hometown and falls in love with her muse, the town sheriff. Meanwhile, she is stalked by an outraged reader but her muse to the rescue... I wouldn't want to spoil the mystery of this chic lit /romance story for you. I recommend it as a highly entertaining "listen" or "read" if this is one of your favorite genres. And worth full purchase price.
