Very disappointing is my reaction to this new series. I really loved Ms Brooks earlier series, but this one was so unrealistic and so rushed, it read like something from a teenager. A family going from hand-me-down clothes and hard pressed to come up with tuition money with a father working on a railroad crew to over-the-top CEO of a global company and brothers and sisters having own companies, etc. was just too much fantasy for my taste.DNF This was a very fast,fun, timely contemporary romance. Yes, it has (appropriate and mutual) sex, but it doesn't detract from the actual story. What bothers me is the prologue kind of just sits there, and you've got to read almost the whole story before it clicks into place.Elle Simpson didn't get where she is the head of a global multi national corporation by looks. She learned how women do, by doing and learning. The fact she has "a head for business..." to misquote Melanie Griffiths in "Working Girl" has gotten her where she is. I love that she also has "....the bod for sex" ( the other half of that quote) but that she refuses to give into it. Example: her shoes; bunny slippers instead of "Satan's stilletoes". Comfort allows for presence and ability to flow.Then, she meets someone as reclusive as she is, and she let's down her defenses and falls for Drake. And as her former paramour returns to town with vengence on his mind, she sharpens her abilities and once again betters the sleazebag.I love Kathleen Brooks style and flair. This is a book challenging to some, and upsetting to others who can't see beyond the sensual to the cerebral. I, for one, will read anything I can find of this author in the future and encourage others to do the same
