About book Born To Fight (2000)

Well this book fairly went downhill from the last one. The first book had problems but it still had promise and I thought this book would maybe fix the problems and come into it's own. But no.Where to begin? The romance is horrific. Neither of them are particularly good choices. At a push I guess Jake could do but Will just needs a swift punch to the gonads. He is an irritating control freak with clear anger issues. I'm not even going to go into it because I could rant for hours about the pointless romance in this boo. Yet again, I felt it wasn't necessary and really spoiled my enjoyment of the whole thing. It wasn't just that though. I thought that this book was really clumsily written at times. People were speaking without using contractions, e.g. " I am going to..." instead of "I'm", which just threw off the entire flow and I had to just correct it in my head as I was reading. In addition, the use of caps when people were shouting just made everything a lot more intense than necessary. Instead of shouting, I felt that people were screaming at the of their lungs at each other. Also, a lot of the time I felt disjointed from the characters. Something would be happening and I thought I knew their mood and that they were angry and then someone would say something and I'd expect anger and instead get laughter. If this had been a one off event I might have put it down to me just being a bit out of sync but it happened again and again. And my final pet hate was the scowling! Everyone was scowling all the time. The author really should have came up with another word because that bit just repeated again and again. At one point "I scowl." was literally in a paragraph all by itself. That was the paragraph. Two words. It was just far too repetitive and not even justified at some points, I felt. Also, quickly, one thing that actually mad me angry was Em's constant thoughts that because Star dressed in short clothes she was asking for it. It really, really made me angry and I really think the author should have thought twice about putting that in. Although Em does eventually apologise to Star, it doesn't change the fact that this could cause people reading the book to form the same opinion. 'That girl was wearing revealing clothing, so she was asking for it. It's her fault.'The only thing I liked about this book was Em's relationship with Leo. I thought that was a really refreshing thing to see and I liked that aspect.Overall, this book was pretty much a disaster from start to finish and I actually have so many more problems with it but if I go into them I'll be here all day. I will read the third one though, because I've gotten this far and really it can't get much worse. This boo has changed my mind about recommending this series to anyone though. I really enjoyed the first book, but this one was just awful. It was pretty much about the love triangle. I have no idea why the main character thinks it is okay for Will to be a controlling, borderline abusive guy and yet the author keeps pushing them to be the couple. I feel like Emma went from a likable, strong character to a really annoying weak character. Also, all of a sudden she likes Star because she is kind of her "sister"? So weird how quickly she flip flops. Such an annoying read.

Do You like book Born To Fight (2000)?

A bit more adult than I expect in a YA series but that is a good thing and to the YAs benefit.
