This series was awesome. The story is eerily similar to FSOG, but overall I enjoyed it more! Which is saying a great deal, because FSOG is set in my hometown, and the story was a bit of a love letter to the Pacific Northwest. Jodi's take on this type of story flowed better for me, it was impossible not to make comparisons throughout. Since I loved FSOG, I didn't mind feeling like those characters were present in the background while reading this. Jesse is damaged, but not so brooding, and seems to need Ava in his darkest moments,or when she resists his control. While his FSOG counterpart tends to punish, and create distance with Ana. I also think any fan that may be offended at how similar these two stories are, should remember FSOG was concieved as a modern, less supernatural version of Edward and Bella....meant to shine light on how disfunctional that relationship might be in the real world. I like to think of the This Man series as FSOG's lovable cousin from across the pond.....one big happy bdsm family!! this book was awesome, seriously, starting with the fact that Jesse ward is an alpha-male just made me love this book, what else could i have asked for? the age gap between the two characters is huge but believable and the drama left me closing my eyes after every few paragraphs to remind myself it was just a novel, but the book was well written and to say that the author(Jodi Ellen Malpas) is talented is an understatement, the emotions in the book felt too real and how Ava responded to problems was exactly how a normal girl would, in short the book was worth the read and i can't wait to start the third book...
