About book And With Madness Comes The Light (2013)
I really hate giving this novella two stars because this series is so great! But, if I'm being honest with myself, this short story was 'just ok' to me. I found The Dex Files, also told from Dex's POV, as very enlightening to his character. We really got to see inside the man of mystery. In this novella, we re-live the scenes from On Demon Wings. On Demon Wings is one of my least favorite books in the series, only in the sense that it was so emotionally draining - cheers to the author for being so impactful. But because of this, I wasn't really excited about reliving it again from Dex's POV. Also, I'm not exactly sure this novella shed any light on anything I didn't already know after reading Into the Hallow. I think this novella is much better suited as book 5.5 rather than 6.5. These factors play into my reasoning for the two stars. That being said, I love the series and recommend it for those readers interested in paranormal/supernatural books. It's no secret that I'm kind of in love with Dex (putting that lightly), and the love only grew while reading this book. We see a very vunerable side to him and it really broke my heart. Even when he put himself back together he still was so vunerable. And don't get me started on when he found out about the baby, oh my god. This issue was briefly addressed in the last book but I really want Dex to come forward more about how he feels about this. Despite Dex feeling so low we still saw every side to him that I love; he can put humour into any situation! While I did love this little novella (thank you once again Karina Halle for being awesome) the end section was too samey to the book and it just felt like I was re-reading it. But then again without this we wouldn't have seen his reaction to the baby situation, so maybe I'm not complaining too much. But yeah, it wasn't worth five stars. Though if it was based on charcters then this would of, without a doubt, received five. A question though, why was this book between six and seven? It has nothing to do with the sixth book and nothing was spoiled so I don't understand why it would be put there in the reading order? I don't know but it was awesome either way. Only got Come Alive left now (eek!)
