I have to say .. this book has a lot of reviews and is very popular. I get why. I just don't agree. I thought that the book was about Lauren (and props to the people who can't remember the lead female character name, it's just not that interesting to MAKE it memorable) and yet we spend more of the book dealing with other people. The book honestly felt like it was written as part of a teen writing contest. The chat segments were obnoxious. It's very much a Mary-Sue type character (to me) and she's just this amazing witch who gets it all and just makes it happen. There's no struggle. There's no character flaws. It's just boring to read about it all. I had high hopes for the series but this reading train will stop at book #1. I read this novel a while ago, but recently came back to the series and read the whole lot of them in just a handful of days. Aside from this series being one of the most innovative (combining tech-now with the older witchy traditions) it is also one of the most life-affirming, uplifting series that I've ever had the pleasure to read. The author's love for her characters comes through loud and clear, as evidenced by the amount of thought and care she put into breathing life into them, holding their hands through tough times, and laughing with them over nutella cookies and ice cream. Start here, then read all 7 books in the main series, but don't forget the spin-off series as well! Trust me, you'll feel like a better person after living among the people of Witch Central for over a dozen book's worth!
