I could call these books a guilty pleasure but I don't feel the least bit guilty. They have all been a delight, touching, inspiring, fun. While the books are heavy on the fantasy I quickly connect how like real life they are and conclude that every person has magic in them waiting to get out, waiting to be encouraged, waiting to be used. Witch Central has become my new refuge of choice when I need a positive message and an uplift of spirits. 'Trust the magic'. I really enjoy the joy and love of the characters in this series. It's my favorite part. Sierra was a tough character to like at first, and although I really felt for her, she still annoyed me. She was maybe meant to come off less as immature and more as alone and unknowing, but in the beginning especially, I honestly mistook her for a thirteen or fourteen year old, instead of the almost-eighteen year old she really was. Maybe some of that was how she always referred to her mother in the child-like way of "Momma". That could be because she lost her mother at a young age, and so never grew out of calling her "momma", but that idea is my own creation and not an explanation the author put in. The point is, Sierra simply acts young. It was cool to see more of the other side of magic, not only of its risks, but its greater effects on others and the larger world (especially the weather). However, I was a bit taken aback when the characters talked about "grounding" their magic like they had always done it, even though the reader had never known about it before. I understand that it was likely something new the author wanted to add in and explain (very few authors have every detail of the whole series figured out before writing the books!), but it still felt silly at first as a reader to be told something so seemingly basic but obviously brand new.I'm excited to keep reading this series!
