This was a very sweet story, without being "too precious." I wish that people who don't understand or don't often interact with people with developmental disabilities would read this book. It really does a good job of getting inside the head of a person with Aspergers. I am thrilled that it emphasized the importance of Edward's living independently and making his own decisions, his own friends, his own life. What a fantastic gem of a book! The development of the characters and the consistency of the narration make this book great. You can't help but be drawn into Edward's world, as he deals with life's calamities (both big and small), by listening to his narration of his daily routine. The subtle decreases of rigidity in the style coincide nicely with Edward's expanding experimentation in his own life. And that makes Edward, as a character, that much more believable. This is a book about challenging our own demons, but it is also a humorous mirror of all of our idiosyncrasies. Highly recommended!
