I loved this book and have read it twice already. While some familiarity with the Tinker universe is helpful, it is not really necessary as the book stands on its own. Consider nine year old wood sprites, who are more clever than the average bear. Add a world-spanning mystery about their parentage, becoming famous without really knowing it, and here is a novel that is downright enjoyable. It tickled my funny bone, even the second time around.It definitely goes on my 'feel good' shelf. Couldn't wait to get my hands on this one. Had to grab the e-ARC.I loved it. Wen did a great job weaving this story in with the rest. I wasn't sure how she was going to do that from the Earth angle, but it all works. She starts by getting us to fall in love with a pair of brilliant nine-year-olds. They nickname themselves "the leftovers." It is a name that is quite appropriate and darling all the same. Imagine a pair of Tinkers with plenty of access to modern Earth technology and all sorts of fun things to accidentally, or not so accidentally, blow up. So, sit down and please keep all hands and feet inside the book at all times. Please stow your snacks and drinks carefully. You are in for one wonderful ride!PS When Elfpunk met Steampunk, I found Nirvana.
