About book Wir Haben Soeben Unsere Reiseflughhöhe Vergessen (2012)
This was an entertaining look at one flight attendant's experience, and it reflects back many of the crazy passengers (and some of the nice, and annoying, flight attendants) all fliers have had to deal with. Poole made me feel sorry for flight attendants, more than anything - low pay, constant aggravation, and the fear of losing her job seemed to be constant themes. The job doesn't seem enjoyable. For a while, I wondered why in the world the author (or any other flight attendant) would want such a terrible job. The author deals with things with wry humor. She also glosses over 9/11 and its aftermath almost entirely, which was fairly disappointing. But all in all, it was an entertaining (though superficial) read. Another blogger turned author who turns out an even better book than her insanely popular blog. This is another of those books that is better than it needs to be. It would be enough to have her stories of living in slum housing with other flight attendants and enduring the terrors of the probationary period, but this is all that plus a well-written and thoughtful account of the world of flight attendants. A fun read.
