About book »Wir Haben Soeben Unsere Reiseflughöhe Vergessen«: Eine Stewardess Erzählt (German Edition) (2012)

"Cruising Attitude" is an easy read, fairly interesting, but overall I found it a bit disappointing. I rated it three stars, but was tempted to give it two. Or, more ideally, two and a half.It got off to a good start with the inside story about flight attendant training, living conditions for new hires, and Ms. Poole's first few experiences in the air. However, I kept waiting for the promised "drama" and "crazy passengers", and there wasn't much of that at all. Yes, she dealt with a few annoying and demanding people, but nothing more than I would have expected. And most of her stories were a sentence or two, with very little detail. I didn't read anything in this book that I found to be shocking or scandalous at all. Several times I also found her writing style to be difficult to understand. There were a few sentences that I had to read over and over in an effort to understand what she was trying to say. She awkwardly jumped around in time, and didn't always provide enough of an explanation when she was trying to make a point. I was surprised to read toward the end that Ms. Poole loves her job. After reading 259 pages of mostly complaints, I wished she had told us more about why she loves it and why she continues to do it. But again, she didn't go into any detail. The entire book seemed hastily written to me, and absolutely could have used better editing. Nevertheless, it was fairly entertaining light reading, and I am now interested enough in the topic to be on the hunt for a better book about flight attendants. I cannot tell you how I ended up with this book on my Kindle, truly I haven't a clue, but there it was. I hate to fly, I'm terrified of flying, and so I'm fascinated by people who do it every day for a LIVING! I mean... why? This was an interesting look at the people who try to make our flying experiences less horrific. The book is written to focus on pre 9-11 times so every single seat isn't packed with people, not everyone has tried to roll aboard their luggage which CLEARLY will not fit in the overhead compartment.... makes you remember how flying used to be less traumatic.
