About book Winter Soldier, Vol. 1: The Longest Winter (2012)
I bought this with the $5 credit Comixology gave its subscribers when they made the big change to their storefront generated a lot of chatter on the internet. I couldn't care less since it barely affected me and I could use the credit to get more books. This Winter Solider trade was one of the books I got, a steal for $1.99. For the price of a regular digital comic, I got a trade which had six issues. The trade collected the first five issues of the Winter Soldier series by Brubaker and Guice which also had Fear Itself issue 7.1 which was essentially issue zero of the series since it was also done by the same creative team.Bucky Barnes returned in the series to the familiar skin of the Winter Soldier after a stint as Captain America which ended with him dead. He got better.I enjoyed Bucky as Cap although until he had paid for his sins as the Winter Soldier, he will always have that over him. Black Widow mentioned having "red in the ledger", the Winter Soldier had red ink dripping all over the pages. He may have have been under Soviet programming that doesn't make him guiltless especially since he's starting to remember everything. I have had this for a couple months now and was so busying reading novels that I took some time off from reading Graphic Novels. I am happy to say that Winter Soldier: The Longest Winter, was a wonderful welcome back to the world of comics, even if I was only gone for a couple months!Being a huge Marvel fan, I will be spending a lot of money this upcoming summer on going to the movies and seeing all the wonderful Marvel movies coming out. I was, quite frankly, not the biggest fan of the first Capatin America movie. I wanted to know what I was getting into this summer when Captain America: Rise of the Winter Soldier comes out. Let me tell you, if they do this movie in any way like the comics were done, it's going to be incredible! :) I love Natasa (many know her from Avengers the movie) and her character does not disappoint in this comic. She's funny, smart, knows how to kick ass, and willing to show emotions... honestly, it can't get better for a female comic book character. The Winter Soldier, someone who I thought I would hate, I ended up loving and wanting to find out more information about him as a person, not just the hero. If you're someone who is impatiently waiting for the next Captain America movie I suggest running out and picking up this graphic novel to hold you over in the mean time, you will not be disappointed!
