I normally don't like romance books, but I have to say that with the paranormal twist, this book was a lot more tolerable. I enjoyed the story and was frustrated for the main character and for how bleak both her futures came out to be. It definitely reminded me of Sliding Doors but with teenagers with strange paranormal abilities. What I didn't enjoy was the fact that the Compound had so many complex rules but the author barely delved into them. I found it distracting every time she mentioned the rules but luckily, it didn't keep me from enjoying the book.I definitely will be reading the sequel to this book. I hope Addie has a better future in the next book! Surprisingly good. I didn't know much about this book before I started so I was surprised to learn it was kind of "paranormal". At first I thought I didn't like Addie, but she grew on me. Also, the writing was very straightforward and fun to read. I really enjoyed all the dialogue between Addie. And the fact that the chapters change between the two different lives Addie would have depending on her choice is a really neat way to do it. And in the end to see it all come together. Despite really liking the character and general plot, I did have some problems with the whole secret Compound and abilities. If you want something deep discussing their abilities, then this book isn't for that. This book is definitely focused more on normal high school teenager life vs. discussion of supernatural abilities. This is the second book I've read by Kasie West and I still really enjoyed it. There's just something about her way of writing that makes it really easy to read. I look forward to reading the next one.
