Very clever and very dark. I especially love the talking plants :)*Pausing for a moment at an intersection, she focused her listening at a line of oaks to gauge their thoughts.**She'd always been most comfortable in libraries since she was a small child, and even though this one did not resemble any library she'd been in previously, it still managed to inspire a kind of solace in her.* When will I read, see, or play a second installment of a planned trilogy and not think to myself, "This is The Empire Strikes Back"?Obviously a darker book than the first, with less finality either, it's only going to be really good or bad depending on the third book. As an individual book though, it's not bad, with the obvious exception of it being hard to know if it's good without a conclusion. The parts people seem to dislike (particularly the Moles) didn't seem so bad to me; it's not anywhere as long and tedious a section as people made it seem, and the use of all-caps was a pretty reasonable way of reminding the reader that these tiny moles are supposed to have booming voices. Whatever, people will whine.But I do have one other complaint. I can accept wholly that small intelligent rodents may outfit themselves using our detritus (like bottle caps), but why do we never give then enough credit to hammer them into more usable shapes? They can do literally everything else we do except bend aluminum?

I loved Wildwood, and almost-loved Book 2. I am hoping good things for Book 3.
