SPOILER ALERT.....Sorry can't help it Rose was selected to be a juror in a murder case where Bruce was being tried for murder. Before jury selection, Rose had a vision while in a stall in the men's room in the courthouse that someone who happened to be in the bathroom at the time was going to get away with murder. The person in the vision mentions a pin that could tie the murderer to the crime scene. Luckily for Rose, by the time she blurted her vision out, the person had already left the bathroom and didn't hear her. She quickly forgot about the incident and goes through the selection process. During the process, she meets her new best friend (and my favourite person in the series) Neely Kate, who in the end wasn't picked for the jury but it was the beginning of a beautiful friendship. The case begins and things look bad for Bruce but when a picture of the pin/brooch is shown, Rose realises that Bruce is innocent and that the murderer had been in the bathroom with her earlier. Rose then makes it her mission to prove Bruce's innocence even if it meant breaking the rules. In this book, Rose meets the Assistant District attorney, Mason Deveroux, who it turns out has a past secret that involves Rose's boyfriend, Joe who is a member of the state police. This book would not be complete without the attempted murder of Rose, the kidnapping of Rose, home invasions and the works. There's never a dull day in the life of Rose Gardner. Rose is thinking about moving to Little Rock to be with Joe but Violet does all she can to ensure that Rose does not leave town, including setting Rose up on a blind date without her knowledge. Violet also attempts to end Joe and Rose's relationship by insinuating that Joe may not be up to standard as they did not know his family background. When it turns out that Joe is from the Simmons clan, the richest and most connected family in the state, Violet attempts to use this information to convince Rose that she is not good enough for his upper class family. Violet finally gets Rose to agree to stay by announcing that her husband was leaving her and that she wanted to start a plant nursery. In my opinion, this is where Violet begins to show her true colours......She is manipulative and conniving just like her Momma, except she does it better. I can safely say that this is where my dislike of Violet was justified......She is toxic! No wonder Mike was leaving herThe series is addictive. When I started book 2, I didn't stop reading until I was finished. The book is well written and it captured my attention from start to finish. This Rose Gardner mystery was a great book. It was about how she gets picks for jury duty and has visions. Her vision shows her the defendant is innocent of killing Frank and she is trying to prove it but gets caught and gets thrown jail. Also she is suppose to move to Little Rock with her boyfriend, Joe, but then her sisters husband is leaving her so Rose cant leave her sister now. Even though her sister was mean to Joe and thought he was lying about something, Rose still cant leave her. Then the actually killer of Frank breaks in Rose house and tries to kill her then the next day he sees her at a coffee store and tries to kill her again and confesses he killed Frank. But Rose stalls him and gets away from him.
