About book The Strangers On Montagu Street (Center Point Premier Fiction (2012)
I wanted to like this book. After all, it is set in Charleston, SC. But I really, really didn't. I was a little worried about whether I would like the main character when she admitted to spending an afternoon organizing her wardrobe by designer. Then she is broke, but has a housekeeper. Then she slammed Summerville. And finally, she started crying because someone insinuated that her dress had been bought at Sears. Ugh. Forty going on 14. None of the rest of the cast of characters was much better. Jack, her love interest, is a manipulative jackass. The "mystery" was pathetically simple -- even easier to divine than the main character's pregnancy. I had thought I would try another book in this series because, you know, Charleston, but by the time I had labored through this one, I had had enough. Actual rating: 1.5 stars, and that was only because of the setting. Karen White did it again! I love the mixture of characters, the history of the city, interactions of the characters, the story line, etc... WOW. But when will Jack and Mellie actually get together for good? I am enjoying how Mellie is beginning to see her gift as a help to those that have passed rather than a hindrance and being embarrassed. She needs to grow up a bit regarding her relationship with Jack, he sure is a patient man (and boy does he sound sexy!). Karen White is able to keep the stories clean and moving and not repetitive at all. I can envision many novels in this line!

Almost as good. The back and forth between Melanie and Jack gets old by this book.

As an audible book, an entertaining time waster.
