About book The Ride (2000)

Quick short read with likeable characters and nice build up of sexual tension. Lost two stars for a few reasons, firstly the editing which needs tightening up, spelling errors and punctuation in totally the wrong places. Also the author could have put in a little more effort and made this into a short story, rather than the extra short story that it was. The idea behind the plot was good, but the last few scenes in particular felt rushed and I couldn't fathom why Rose was still with her boyfriend when he obviously treated her so badly. If there were a few more pages to give more insight into this, or to explore Heath and Rose's unrequited feelings when they were apart it could have been even better. The heroine in this story drives me crazy with her lack of strength. Her lazy, neglectful, self-centered boyfriend expects her to pay for EVERYTHING and she chooses to hang onto the loser because it would upset both of their parents if she tosses him. During their chance encounter, the hero shows her she can be strong, she's beautiful and worthwhile. They come to a point where they must part ways, he to be with a daughter in another state and she to think things over about the boyfriend. What does she decide...SHE GOES BACK TO THE LOSER BOYFRIEND!!! It drove me insane. I kept yelling "NO! NO! NO! Didn't you learn anything?!?" Not until the boyfriend screams at her, throws her phone across the room, and actually smacks her in front of his mother does she come to her senses and runs back to the hero. The hero's character had flaws but he recognized them, while trying to correct his mistakes. Their reunion is a little abrupt and I felt short changed. I wanted more. I wanted her to show that she was strong, that she had learned from their time together. I got a small glimpse of that but not enough. The overall flow of the story line was good. I rather enjoyed the book as a whole.Would I recommend this book? Definitely!Would I reread this book? Absolutely! Will I continue to yell at the heroine? You bet!Adult read
