So, the pig is raised as the princess and the baby girl is raised as peasant and it all ends happily ever after except maybe for the prince who gets talked into marrying the pig. This story is original, precious, funny, and highlights books! What's not to like? The humor is very accessible to children and its silliness will leave children laughing out loud. The illustrations are bright with beautiful rich colors. We could definitely discuss genre with this book and what fantasy, fairytales, and fractured fairytales are. The Princess and the Pig is not the sort of book I thought it would be, it was better! I can just imagine reading this book to my nieces and listening to them laugh at the pig turned princess. I cannot describe how much I enjoyed the ending of this book. It is pure silliness and I found myself wanting to read about the life of the unfortunate prince at the end! I am glad the princess/farm girl found true love, "It's the sort of thing that happens all the time in books."

I loved the illustrations in this book but I also love how everybody kind of ending getting what they deserved. There was no good fairy or bad fairy cursing or blessing them but they could very well have been. The poor danger and his wife for what they deserved and the royal family for what was coming to them. I like how the family was still honest in the end and tried to explain things and were still all the better for it.
