About book The Princess And The Pig (2011)

This "cutesy" almost fairy-tale like book reminds me somewhat of the story, The Princess and the Frog. In this story that Jonathan Emmett presents, a princess, Pricilla is accidentally switched with the farmer's pig, Pigmella. Children will instantly fall in love with the bright colors that very well compliment the text and illustrations of the story. I would implement this book into my classroom as a shared reading and probe my students before, during, and after the reading to help them not only make predictions, but connections as well. I’m not sure what I can say about this book except that it’s a very funny story – about, obviously, a baby princess and a baby pig, and the queen who didn’t want to change a smelly, a very smelly diaper – and thought someone else should change the diaper, since, after all, she was a QUEEN!Now, you know, that kings and queens believe in fairy tales, so what do you think this story may be about?I really can’t tell you anymore because, you know, I would be giving away the whole plot….

Do You like book The Princess And The Pig (2011)?

Loved this "new" fairy tale, and especially the way it ended. My preschooler also enjoyed it.

Loved this fractured fairy tale! I'd use it for younger students to teach allusion.

Pig and princess get switched as babies and then grow up. Didn't work for me.
