About book The Moonlight Palace (2014)

This had a lot of the elements that classic coming of age stories have. It just lacked depth in some areas such as character development, which in my opinion, isn't always a bad thing. In this case, it made the story that much more enjoyable not having to get caught up in overwhelming details. The characters were memorable enough and the plot kept me wanting to pick up the book any chance I had. Also, I found it really cool when I got to the end and found out the author lives in my hometown! A pleasant tale of 1920s Singapore, narrated by a young girl growing up in a crumbling palace. Well written, but it didn't feel quite complete to me, and I thought the characters could have been more fleshed out. The older family members were interesting, and I would like to have learned more about them rather than the teenage girl, as they had lived through times of such change.Reviewed in exchange for a preview Kindle copy.

It's a 3.5. A simple, but well written story.
