About book The Good, The Bad, And The Uncanny (2010)
Having read many of the Nightside books, I generally get lost in this wonderful, dark world. John Taylor is a complex character and I love the noir-feel to his fantastical and usually horrific adventures. The Good, The Bad, and the Uncanny-though deliciously wicked and well written as always-was not my favorite. The beginning (with the elf) was a fast paced, enjoyable ride. When the POV switches to another character so he can tell his story,it lost something for me. At times. this character actually felt too similar to John and the lack of distinction threw me off. But,the last 3/4 of the story drew me back in. The ending was solid, yet opened up a realm of possibilities. I'm curious to see what's next for John Taylor. Something tells me it isn't anything good. Another quick, fun read. Walker, John Taylor's sometime friend, sometimes nemesis, is getting soft, kind, and considerate. It is therefore time to go hide in a bomb shelter somewhere. Preferably one armored against the occult equivalent of thermonuclear weapons. Then, as if Walker himself weren't worrying enough (and he is, especially when he says he wants to do you a favor) there's the matter of Tommy Oblivion. Tommy was another sometime friend, sometime enemy of John Taylor. He vanished saving Taylor's life so that Taylor could get on with saving the world (again). John Taylor finds things. Can he find his lost friend?Well, he's John Taylor, isn't he?
