About book The Girl With Glass Feet (2009)

While I loved the story, I got bogged down in the descriptive writing. The fantastic elements are creative and fresh, and the connections between the characters are compelling (though often not very fleshed out). It seemed as if every noun had an adjective, and every detail was described. The writing also got clever a little too often, such as calling a branch a "bird's table". I had to retread that sentence a couple time before I understood what it meant. After awhile I just started skipping the convoluted descriptions to get to the interesting story. I loved it! I bought this book especially because the title was intriguing and it didn't fail my expectations. I actually enjoyed following Ida's transformation, the details Shaw chose for this final transformation and I must say he did all that in a very poetical way. He is very good at describing the scenery and he has got great skills in slow-revealing feelings and inner turmoil.Sweet, poetical with a touch of sadness, contemplating the remoteness of a day to day life, worth reading. I am sure the following books will get better and better in terms of writing techniques, but it's the kind of message that will stay with you for a long time, especially because of its uniqueness.
