About book The Flesh Cartel #10: False Gods (2013)
I know I'm a horrible person for saying this but I hate Dougie so much right now. How could he do those thing to his brother?? HOW ?? Those men disgust me so much! I want to kill Nikolai for breaking Dougie to this point and for all the he's doing to Mat.Even Roger... I had hopes for him but now... I still like him but... Oh Roger why ? Those sick, twisted bastards fucking sons of bitches!!! I want them all to pay for all that they've done. Oh god I can't even imagine what's going to happen from now on since Mat and Dougie were sold together because those fucking disgusting men like to get of by watching Dougie rape his brother. Mat you save to escape. I have too. Oh baby. This is horrible! Poor poor Mat.No more comments I'm so done. Minor spoilers for events that happen over the course of the entire series:My low rating does not reflect a squeamishness for some of the darker parts of the story; it's because there is literally NOTHING else to balance it out now - it's all just terrible things happening over and over. For the first 3 or 4 books, I was interested in how the story would play out, and even found myself becoming uncomfortably drawn under the spell that Nikolai was weaving, even though my brain was telling me how awful it was. Truly, one could see how Stockholm Syndrome or other mind games could cause people to completely shatter and do extraordinarily horrible things, all the while believing that they 'chose' it, or it's 'good' for them. But now, it's just torture after torture after torture after torture, and at this point, even if Douglas is rescued and 'deprogrammed', he's never going to be free. He's gone for good, just as certainly as if the original plan to 'procure' him had gone off without a hitch and Mat had come home to an empty apartment. I almost think that's where the story is going- Mat will be the only one to get out of this alive. I'm not sure I can handle another 'season' of this unrelenting cruelty. Kink is one thing; dehumanization is another, and if the story is going to be that dark, it can't go on this long.
