About book The First Phone Call From Heaven (2013)

I looked forward to reading this book, only to be a little disappointed. Perhaps it was my expectations. I expected something like "Have a little faith" or "Timekeeper".Instead, the book turned out to be more of a mystery genre rather than something philosophical and thought provoking. I did get drawn into the book and finished it rather quickly. I did enjoy reading it and looked forward to finding out the mystery behind the phone calls, but the book failed to leave me thinking and reflecting at the end of it.Perhaps if I had different expectations, I would have enjoyed it a lot better. This is my second book from Mitch Albom. I wouldn't say that it's as good as Tuesdays with morrie. However, it has it's own greatness and uniqueness. You might think that this is another religious story book but in the end you will understand. It all began when People started getting phone calls from heaven. Did I believe the phone calls? My answer would be No. Do I believe there's an after life/heaven? Yes. Actually, I hoped that in the end it was all a hoax because I don't think that the dead would just call and force everyone into a religion and to believe that there's a heaven. And also I feel bad about those people who receives them, cause I think this makes it harder for them to let go of things in life. It gives them false hope which is affecting their daily lives. Rather than moving on and be present, they're living in the past. If that happened to me, I would probably scream or curse the other person on the other line. Why? Well because it's creepy as shit and I don't think it's a good prank. The dead can't just come back and start chitchatting with you on the phone. That just seems off and also defies the cycle of life. But would I want to have a conversation again with a lost loved one? Oh hell yes! I'll ask them loads of stuff but of course in the end I'll also suffer again from letting them go. Which doubles the pain. This book of course taught me and let me see things differently. I salute the author once again. All that matters is what you believe in. Is the end not the end? We'll all see.. After all, our life here on earth will end someday.

Do You like book The First Phone Call From Heaven (2013)?

In short, I think the premise of this book was wonderful. However, the execution was lacking. I was excited about this book. The idea of a story where people were hearing from their lost loved ones in heaven sounded like it would be a moving and emotional story. But for me, it wasn't. I felt zero connection to any of the characters. I feel like every character was so flat and one dimensional. The passages that should have been "ah ha" moments were more of an "oh... okay" for me. I had such high exceptions for this book because Tuesdays with Morrie is one of my very favorites. Mitch Albom previously wrote a book that moved me to tears but this time his book didn't move me at all. I think my opinion may be an unpopular one but as much as I tried I just couldn't connect with this book.
