About book The Fantastic Flying Books Of Mr. Morris Lessmore (2011)
Mr. Morris Lessmore is a very organized man. He keeps everything in order and writes in his own book every single day. When a tragic event of nature sweeps through, it alters his life completely and he must now reorganize the pages of his own story to get a happy ending. I very much enjoyed this book for many different reasons. The first of which is the illustrations throughout the book. They are beautiful in their life-like way, but that's not all they accomplish. They compliment the story in ways that others may not have noticed the first time around. At the beginning of the book, all the pages are in color, in tones of warm golds and browns with hints of red and greens. When the bad even that happens to Mr. Lessmore happens, the pages suddenly turn to black and white. This shows and reflects his sadness and the dim prospects of life that he had. As the story continued, his world started going back to color and then so did he. He also then spread that world of color to individuals that also had black and white lives. Another reason why I enjoyed this story is the lesson it gives. When something bad happened to Mr. Morris Lessmore, he was feeling down and gray. Then something came along and cheered him up once more and gave him a new life. It showed that you can move past the tragic things that happen in your life and be happy again. Bad things are not the end of the line, and you just need to push past them and continue living on and find the things that make you happy again. It also spreads the love for books, and being such an avid reader myself, I can't resist being happy at something promoting the reading of more books. The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore by William Joyce lives up to its title. Mr. Morris Lessmore has a love of books that one would wish a child to have. He brings that joy to a town by refurbishing the books in the town's library. He, quite literally, delves into each book to bring their stories to life. He then, in a wonderful way, adds color to the world by giving a book to each member of the town. This is a book that shows readers the benefit of reading books, caring for books, and enjoying books. The animation alone is enjoyable, but along with the story of what books can bring to the world, it is the perfect book to read to beginner readers and readers of all ages who have already grown to enjoy books or need a little reminder of how fantastic they can be.
