I love love loved Blue Balliett's previous three mysteries. This one I found to be just so-so. The characters were not as complex, the puzzles for readers to figure out lacked depth (if you could even call them puzzles at all), and the storyline was just not as gripping. I miss Petra and Calder! Still, the facts about Darwin were interesting, especially if you didn't know much about his childhood and personal life before. I just recently finished The Danger Box by Blue Balliet. The story is about a boy named Zoomy and he lives in a small town in Michigan and one day his grandparents find a mysterious box and Zoomy looks inside and finds a very mysterious and interesting notebook and thinks it belongs to a famous and well known man, and I would probably never investigate a mysterious notebook like that but I admire how Zoomy does. I liked it because it was very descriptive. For example, Zoomy, the main character, has very odd looking glasses and Balliet describes the lenses as thick chocolate chip cookies and I thought that was very clever. Also, it seemed very realistic, and I really liked how the author made the characters seem like real people with real feelings. Lastly, I would certainly recommend this book to everyone and I loved it!
