About book Hold Fast - Audio (2013)

Do you love reading books about poems and rhyming books? This book is realistic fiction. If you do you should really read this book. It will leave you sorta of confused but on the other hand understanding what's going on.This book is about this girl named Early who lives with her mom and brother who now go homeless. They don't know where to stay now and are force to stay in a homeless shelter. Early wanted everything to go back to normal in her life wishing all the bad stuff never happened, but once they are forced to live in a homeless shelter in the city she's tired of not knowing part of her life, so Early's always asking her mom what happened to their dad, where is he? Then she has no chose but to try to sneak out and go to their old apartment looking for answers for all her unanswered questions. The conflict in this story is Person .vs. Fate. It's this conflict because in the story Early (the main character) still is trying to find answers like "Where is her dad?" and her mom doesn't want to talk anything about him. She does everything she possibly can to find all the answers she wants. Early is fighting for her answers. In my opinion I liked when Early wrote poems and quotes. I liked when she did that because it was confusing but as you keep reading on you would understand what she meant by it. One example was when she said "Hold fast... Hold fast...everything will be okay.." Dash disappears one day and no one knows where he has gone. In my opinion I liked how the author left one of the chapters on the hanging ledge. Sometimes you would expect it and sometimes you wouldn't.Threw out the story the character changed a lot threw out this story. In the beginning Early was sad, thought as a nobody who has no friends but, toward the end she opened out to her new friends she had made in the homeless shelter while she is there. Her new friends there Jubie,Sum, and others help her find her inner self. I can kinda relate to Early in this part because i used to be so quiet and now because of my best friends I learned that you can be you're self no matter what.I would rate this book a 4 out of 5 stars. I would rate this book 4 out of 5 stars because it was a really good book. It seems confusing at first but it's a really good book about how life can go from being what you wanted to not what really you expected. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves some good twists and poems about the main characters life. If you want to learn about homeless and see how it feels/seems to be homeless you should read this book. You will love the way it's put together from beginning to end. Awards:Camellia Award: Alabama Children's Choice Book Award Nominee for 6-8 Fiction (2014)Reading Level: 3.3-5.9Interest level: 3rd and upThis book is good for the readers who have accomplished those small chapter books and want to move on to more advance chapter books without getting in over their head.
