About book The Boyfriend Mandate (2000)

What the hell happened?? I was looking forward to this since I really enjoyed the first book in this series, but The Boyfriend Mandate is such a letdown! Warning: rage-filled rant ahead, possibly with lots of exclamation points. This didn't work for me because of Memphis. I hated him! He's a selfish bastard who didn't even pause to think about how his actions and demands will affect Tyler. It's all "ME ME ME! I WANT THIS! I WANT THAT! GIVE IT TO ME!" All his actions were geared towards making Tyler give into him. It's manipulative and predatory and I don't like it! Yes, I get that he had cancer twice and that he almost died, but did he really need to play the cancer card all the time? And Tyler fell for it EVERY GODDAMN TIME! He allowed himself to be played gaaah! What the hell, Tyler?? I was so enraged that I'm surprised I didn't crush my iPod to itty bitty pieces. Ugh I almost didn't finish this, but I hate not finishing a book and so I soldiered on thinking there's some payoff at the end. But no. There is no payoff. None. Memphis was a selfish bastard from start to finish. And now that's several hours of my life that I'll never get back hmmp!I also didn't like Noah here, which is a shame cos I loved him in the first book. There was a scene where I felt that he and Memphis were ganging up on Tyler even when it's clear that Tyler was uncomfortable with the teasing. I don't think Noah was a good friend there.*takes deep breath* Ok so there are some scenes that I actually liked, hence the 2 stars. Unsurprisingly, it's the scenes that didn't feature Memphis and Tyler together. First, the scene with Tyler and Dylan and the beer lesson of awesome. Second, Tyler's conversation with Julissa towards the end. I think those were very well done. I'm still looking forward to reading Noah's story and I can only hope that it will be much better than this one. Praise to this author for writing such an amazing book! It was wonderful. I loved the characters, I loved the writing, and I just loved the story.Memphis and Tyler were awesome. The moments they were together were intense and very steamy. I loved Memphis and his boyish charm, and I loved Tyler's resolve to always be calm. The side characters were just as great.Memphis had testicular cancer and ended up loosing both of man sacs. He meets up with Tyler after a story appears that claims that at one point Memphis was gay. Although there wasn't a real enemy, this book made up for that. Julissa, Memphis's ex caused no trouble and genually cared about Memphis and Tyler. I loved Noah, and I can't wait for his story with My.You can definitely predict that the cancer comes back, but there is a happy ever after. Its a very curable cancer and resulted from his past treatments. Tyler and Memphis get together, Alec and Dylan also get some good news, and Noah is ready to find love with Kyland Davis who is a really good doctor.Four stars for this amazingly, wonderful book written by an awesome author named River James. I can't wait for Noah and Ky's story. I need release date! Now!

Good, a little rushed towards the end. The writing was decent and I connected with the characters.
