About book The 39 Clues #8 The Emperor's Code (2010)
Finally a book came out that is so interesting that I had to get new eye's for not blinking.***SPOILER ALERT***. In this book Dan gets lost in China, a country with over 1 billion people! The genre is Realistic Fiction.The setting of The Emperor's Code is in China. Amy and Dan went to China to find clues to become the smartest and most powerful people in the world, but Amy said that tere parents were madrigals so maybe they should hate their parents, but Dan got so mad at what she said that Dan ran away and got lost. But Dan's cousin, Jonah ordered Isabelle to kidnapp Dan and drop him at a factory so Jonah lied to him that they will find Nellie and Amy. Jonah wanted him because they were getting pretty far in the clue hunt and they were behind. later Jonahs mom came and told Dan that he was a Janus so he had to work with them but Dan told her that they were Madrigals, then you have to read the book to find out what happened next. The conflict is person vs. person, and person vs. nature. Amy is Dan's older sister, and Jonah is Amy and Dans cousin and he is famous, he comes out in concerts but he is a Janus.I think this was one of the best books from the 39 clues series, and I problably will say that the next book is always more interesting because more stuff will be revealed thats a secret and everything will make more sense.I think this book has a text to text connection to the book What Eric Knew because that book is about clues to solve something. This book is related to me because I kind of act like Dan and he also has asmathe like me, and I would have picked the clues instead of 2 million dollars.Overall i thougth this was the 2 best book I've read.I rate this book 10/10 because now I need new eye's for not blinking, and it was very interesting to read about a kid named Dan lost in a country with over 1 billion people will do. I would recommend this book to people that want to know about China.I assure you that you won't blink when reading this book! Instead of writing a synopsis of the book, which so many others have done before, I'll go straight onto my review. My favorite thing about this book has to be that we see some of the thoughts going through the heads of the other 39 clues contestants. Jonah Wizard, specifically, gets page time and his thoughts and feelings about being a part of the clue hunt and part of the Cahill family are revealed. What makes this so interesting is that he becomes less of a two-dimensional bad guy who does horrible things to Dan and Amy involving crocodiles, and instead becomes more of a real person. A real person who is in many ways being forced to do things that he doesn't want to do.I believe that a good author can make their heroes flawed and their villains human, and this book in particular accomplishes that. Because of revelations discovered in the last book, Amy is having doubts about her family and her parents. This causes a rift between her and Dan and makes them truly doubt one another for the first time in the series.There is also a brief glimpse into what is going on in the Holt family, and why they want to win the clue hunt. It has less to do with the prize at the end and more to do with the pride of winning. And in winning, showing the rest of the family that they are more than just thugs.And of course, the most interesting part of the book is discovering what the prize at the end of the clue hunt actually is.

I had a hard time getting into this book, but that may be because I haven't read the books that precede it in the series. I did feel that the book increased in interest and excitement about 2/3 of the way in, but for a while I didn't get excited about picking it up to read. I wanted to like it from the get-go as I've heard great things about this children's series. Glad it ended better than it started.
