Silly. I read the first in the series and enjoyed it enough to read this one. But SK's taken the cat thing too far. Okay, I blame myself-the title includes "Magical Cat" in it, so I shouldn't be surprised. It's one thing for the cats to have their little abilities but having Kathleen be so afraid someone will overhear her talking to the cats will have them sure she's crazy? Almost anyone who has a pet knows that you talk to them. Normal as normal can be. And the way the cats communicate back with her is too much. I think it would be far more interesting or less silly anyway if SK had the cats leave their little clues and messages in a more mysterious way true to the nature of cats instead of all the over the top human expressions on their faces and human behavior.I'm reading the third installment now and it is so far proving to be not to my taste. There is no depth to these novels. It doesn't have to be the Nile depth wise, but I'd like to be able to have my toes covered, at least. This series is a lot of fun! I think it helps that I am a cat's roommate (no one owns a cat) and I have seen some of her magical powers, including vanishing into thin air at a moment's notice. I also carry on entire conversations with my cat as Kathleen does with hers and I think Minerva understands me and contributes as much as Owen and Hercules do in the book.I like all of the characters in this little town and the quirky things they do. I think the mystery is rather well-done, although the whodunit was a little more obvious because it is not one of the regulars. The why and how were more of the mysteries in here, although there was a good red herring story line. I loved the secondary story line about Roma and Eddie. And the one about Old Harry. Will be passing this on to my friend Furball, whom I shared the first in the series with.
Do You like book Sleight Of Paw (2011)?
Not as entertaining as the first in the series. I'll give it one more try.
