It's no secret...I love Sicarius. I'm thrilled to have even a few pages devoted to him, but even though this was to have been a "Sicarius POV" story, it is far too short to actually contain anything other than observations on fight scenes. My favorite part of this novella is the glimpse into Sespian's childhood. Like Enigma, which was also recently release, this is a must-read for Emperor's Edge fans. This is a wonderful short story set in the Emeperor's Edge universe. As another reviewer mentioned, I wouldn't read this until after reading at leas the first book in the Emerpor's Edge series (which is also free, by the way). Otherwise, spoilers! Well, implied spoilers.Sicarius is one of those characters that really gets under your skin because you just can't figure him out. He's silent and private, and more often that not, he's pure mystery. That's the fun of the character; you don't know what to make of him, but you can't help but like him. This story gives some wonderful context to that character. Without spoiling the story, I can say that it reveals a side of Sicarius we never see--and having read it, I can go back to his other appearances and have a new appreciation for the character. I got the impression that this was written as a "character sketch," to help develop Sicarius. It must have been very helpful for Buroker in that sense, but it's also a pleasure for the reader to be able to see that growth and depth.

Short and sweet interlude. Nothing terrible, nothing special. Mainly Sicarius's POV. :)
