If you're into frat-boy humor and "C'monnnnn just DO IT!" type motivation, then this may be the book for you. If you are interested in actually learning the "why" behind the Paleo diet or a practical "how" that won't trash your health, skip this book. The author spends a great deal of time talking about himself, and bashing every social sphere from biologists to vegans. Many of the diet recommendations, including eschewing all medical advice and maintaining a 70% protein, 0% carbohydrate diet- will cause active harm in the long-term.Much of the logic relies on the idea that the author has a food allergy and eliminated said allergen from his diet, so eliminating this food from everyone's diet is optimal; this is akin to a lactose-intolerant person advocating a dairy-free diet for everyone.Much of the science here is misinterpreted or flat-out wrong, but it is difficult to distinguish whether the author is confused about the biological systems he is describing, or whether in his attempt to simplify it for the public he just completely missed the mark.I picked up the book since the author totes himself as a 'former biochemist' and I was interested in learning about the "why" behind the Paleo Diet; imagine my disappointment when after 80 pages filled with scientific definitions and self-congratulation, the author implicates inflammation in the vaguest way possible.Ignoring the "voice", much of the information presented in this book is factually incorrect and/or outdated. I trashed this book after 150 pages and couldn't say whether the exercise portion was better than the first half. It really does make sense. After reading this book I really want to try 'this paleo thing' for a while. (I've heard a lot about it before on Nerd Fitness but was never convinced enough - I didn't know enough - to actually try it). I've been to eating 'more paleo' (reducing grains and sugar mostly) for a while but now I want to try eating all paleo for a while. The voice of Robb is definitely something you can either cope with (or maybe like, I suppose) or it could really put you off this book. For the information though, I'd say try to cope with it. In my opinion it's worth it.
