An instense emotional read.Death, betrayal, heartbreak, guilt, regret, pain, sorrow.....you name it this story runs high on emotions, which sometimes made it hard keep reading through their pain. But you keep on reading hoping that Logan and Madison can work past all the baggage of the past that is bleeding into their present as it works to destroy their future.Don't forget the passion between these 2 is just simmering below the surface waiting for the past 8 years to explode when the time is right but will it ever be the right time for them? The author does amazing job dealing with a truckload of emotions in this story hitting almost too close for comfort. The emotional overload really starts you thinking and feeling. It brought back some unhappy memories for me of family members that have committed suicide and the aftermath it leaves behind. Lots of us forget the other people (friends, co-workers, students, etc) whose lives they touched and how their suicide affects those people and leaves most wondering why and what could we have done? But it made more determined to keep reading hoping for a happy ending.Looking forward to the last book and still rooting for a happy ending. "Nobody is perfect and people make mistakes" must be your constant mantra in order for you to finish this book.I think it's fair to say that Madison and Logan have an intense connection. I had no doubt that Kolee would deliver when it came the intimate, blush worthy sex scenes. You can skip the sex scenes and dirty talk (as I did in parts) and still walk away knowing that Madison and Logan's chemistry will always be electrifying and hot as a thousand suns. However, this book isn't only about lust, at least that's what I thought until I kept reading. My issue was my inability to empathize for the character's frustration, sadness and most especially the choices (mistakes) they make. I felt that Kolee didn't create a solid foundation for the protagonist's relationship prior to Chicago. Since there was no backstory, as time went on, the character development of Madison and Logan took a nose dive as the story unfolded, leaving me more convinced that these two will do each other more harm than good. Giving Madison and Logan a foundation instills us with the understanding we need to keep rooting for them despite their internal conflicts, selfishness and lack of self control. I understand that their bad decisions doesn't make them bad people (just hormonal, conflicted idiots) but without a supporting backstory in addition to an unstable present, characters with no remorse is exactly what they came off to be. Chapter after chapter of tug of war created for a rather predictable and impatient read since neither of the characters changed in the process. In the end, I hoped that Madison would've been strong enough to accept that they just aren't meant to be. Not only is it a more believable outcome, but it would've showed change (maturity), opening up the possibility that there is a chance for a real future between them.
