I finished this one last night, and have to say that I am extremely glad I did! When I realized that the story was set in India, (in fact about three-quarters of the book takes place there), I hesitated to continue since I have absolutely no interest in that part of the world. However, the books in my library are not there by random chance. I have read the blurb on each of them, and for one reason or another, thought they would be an interesting read, that's why they are on my bookshelves. That being said, I was also a bit reticent to continue reading, because the heroine of the book came across at the start as being a total Victorian snob, something which brought back WAY too many memories of my mother, but, the book was there, on my shelf, so I persevered, and as I said at the beginning, I am SO glad that I finished the story! The two reasons I've just mentioned are probably why it took me a bit of time to get into the story, but once I did, I was hooked, and I would definitely read it again, and recommend to anyone who likes historical romance from the Victorian era, with quite a bit of suspense, and some action to boot! This one is a keeper for me! 4.5 starsThis book was highly recommended to me by a friend (yes Asma, that's you!) so I decided to give it a try.It was quiet a different book from other historical romances that I have read. Right from the start we were shown how broken both the hero and heroin by their marriage which later bring them to the divorce (even if they disguised it as annulment).I hate the heroin by this time. I thought that she was so selfish, so closed up that she decided to run away than confront the issues when all they have to do is communicate. Three years later they met again in the frontier of India when Leo (the hero) was sent by by her sister to fetch Bryony (the heroin) home as their father is sick. During this journey that they start to communicate and revealing what was really bothering them during their marriage. Little by little they started to renew their relationship to a new level.Bryony has issues of her own. She has been abandoned since she was a little girl which makes her become a serious and reserved woman. She also has a career, as a physician, which was frowned upon during that time. But during this journey she tried to opened up herself to love and learned to trust Leo (maybe because this time she cannot run away).This story tells us about second chances. Nobody is perfect, but we have to take the chances to find the happiness. Love, trust and communication is important to have a successful relationship.At first, I don't like the heroin which makes me almost hate the story too. But Ms. Thomas lyrical words touched my heart and makes me read and read until the very end.
Do You like book Nous Resterons Ensemble (2010)?
One of those books I would love to see fleshed out on the big screen. It had everything.
