A woman is kidnapped and imprisoned in a house that is set-up so she can see her family via a video screen.I found the story to be gripping and well written. The ending / cause of the crimes became clear about half way through – so the last chapter isn’t as surprising as it could have been.Some of the plot elements are a bit gruesome / disturbing and there is sexual violence throughout so this is only for crime / thriller enthusiast with strong stomachs. This book reminded me in tone and themes of "Gone Girl". Not that the plot has any similarities with that book but that there are very flawed characters that you have some conflicted feelings for. I read some reviews that complained about the sparse language and lack of character development. For me the pacing was perfect, I wouldn't of wanted it dragged out any more. I got enough of the characters to figure out the blanks, and not really want to know any more. I can't say I "enjoyed" the story - kidnapping and violence are not my thing - but it makes you think about revenge and paying people back for a wrong and how that would play out in the extreme. I also thought a lot of the ladies in Cleveland - although the circumstances was different, the captivity for so many years had to be horrific in how it would damage your spirit and will to live. All in all - it was a book that made me think beyond the storyline. Can't ask for more than that.
This book had unnecessarily foul language. It made me feel cheap after reading it.
