More like 4.5 I'm not sure exactly why I cannot give it a full five stars but it was fantastic. I've barely done anything else since I picked the book up two days ago. I have neglected my family and my responsibilities because I just did not want to tear myself away. Case in point it is now 3:06 a.m. and I refused to go to bed until I finished. It is too late or rather too early for me to be able to put any other coherent sentences together so I am going to leave it at that. Read the book. I think you'll like it. I did. I am dead. I have died. This is possibly the best book I have ever read in my life. Okay, so normally I wouldn't really go for the whole romance thing, but honestly when reading this book I'm like, screw that, let's squeal until we die.Firstly, the characters are absolutely amazing. Isobel started out to be your stereotypical cheerleader, in all her blonde glory. But then we started seeing the real depth and personality to her, as well as her trait of never giving up if when she was supposed to. I literally don't know what to say about Varen though. He isn't exactly your average book dreamboat, but he still managed to steal our heart's. He definitely has that edge to him, as well as the soft, caring poetic side. First, I was a bit cautious of him, but at the end of the book, he wrenched my soul out of my body and repeatedly stomped on it with his chain boots. The extra characters too are awesome, with the exception of Brad, of course. I absolutely loved Gwen, she was one of the bright points in this book and was positively hilarious. Nikki, I ended up forgiving in the end, because in the end people usually do cave in to peer pressure. All of the other extra's are also wonderfully made too. The story itself though, was stunning. It had that old-fashioned haunt to it, as well as modern day twists. The author also managed to bring the incredible Edgar Allan Poe into this beautiful book making it even better. She plays with our emotions and leaves us broken-hearted in this wonderful, yet tragic story.
